Closet Design – Tips to Make Your Closet More Accessible
Closet Design – Tips to Make Your Closet More Accessible
August 09, 2016

Closet design is an important consideration if you are looking for an innovative storage solution. While most people prefer closets with more space, it is commonly overlooked that the way it is designed and its layout will make your things more organized. Closets with high ceilings have shelves up to the top which allows for more storage space but how on earth can you reach the topmost shelves without using a ladder? Even if you are more than 6 feet tall, it isn’t practical for a closet to be excessively high. There is always a solution for your closet organization and how to best utilize the space.

Tips for closet design

Do you know that only about 20% of the clothing that a person owns is worn most of the time? Because of the great amount of clothing that is purchased, some good pieces have only been worn once. It is easy to forget a certain dress that was dumped at the back of the closet due to lack of space for hangers. A good closet design has to be functional as well as practical.  For example, a homeowner has a choice between the wall hanging and a floor supported closet design found in Toronto. You can opt for the wall hanging if you require storage for heavy items below the panels. The floor supported closet design combines the idea of suspension rail system and support from the floor. The suspension rail is a metal hanging strip that is anchored to studs with panels attached to the rail.

The most important factor in the choice for closet design is accessibility. The deeper the panels the more difficult it would be to reach some items. Hard to reach areas must be minimized as much as possible which means limiting the number of sections. However, if you have a lot of clothes, fewer vertical panels will not be a wise decision. Since customization of closet design is possible, it would be a good idea to take a photograph of the space with special attention to obstacles that will get in the way of accessibility.

There has been a dramatic increase in the demand for walk-in closets ever since magazines started featuring the homes of celebrities. A neat and organized closet is very attractive, particularly with everything in their proper places. The dimensions of the space available will determine the walk-in closet design like in Toronto. One of the simplest designs used when space is not adequate is an L-shape that includes a couple of hanging sections and a few shelves and drawers. The U-shape design is much more complicated and elaborate because so much consideration is placed on its various elements.

On the other hand, the size of the walk-in closet won’t matter if you fail to organize your things properly. The idea of closet design is to make things as accessible as possible. For example, most of the clothes hanging in the closet are very rarely worn like formal clothing which means there isn’t any issue if you do not put it in front of a wide reach-in closet. Closet doors mean extra expense and it can limit storage space.
